Background:

Animal farming plays a critical role in global food systems, supplying essential nutrients, supporting rural economies, and contributing to food and livelihood security worldwide. However, the rising demand for animal-derived products, combined with population growth, urbanization, and climate change, has exerted significant pressure on traditional farming systems.

Recent scientific and technological advancements present promising solutions to these challenges. Innovations in animal farming, genomics, reproductive biotechnologies, nutrition, and digital monitoring tools are increasing productivity and reducing environmental impacts.

From this point of view, there is an urgent need to integrate emerging scientific advances, overcome implementation barriers, and shape a sustainable future for the sector. This Special Issue brings together contributions from all cultured species, highlighting how innovative, interdisciplinary, and data-driven approaches can redefine animal farming toward greater resilience, ethical responsibility, and environmental sustainability.
