Background:

The global demand for animal-derived products is rising steadily, placing high pressure on livestock production systems to enhance efficiency, ensure animal welfare, and minimize environmental impact. Precision animal farming has emerged as a pivotal model to address these multifaceted challenges. By leveraging advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), computer vision, sensor networks, and big data analytics, precision animal farming enables the continuous, automated real-time monitoring of animals and their environment.

This shift from group-level management to individual animal care is transformative. It allows for early disease detection, optimized feeding, precise reproductive management, and real-time assessment of welfare indicators. The importance of this Special Issue lies in its timeliness. As the field rapidly evolves, there is a critical need to consolidate recent research breakthroughs, address implementation challenges, and chart a course for the future. In this special issue we intended to collect different studies covering all culture species (ruminants, poultry, and aquatic animals). This issue will serve as a vital resource for researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers, showcasing how data-driven decision-making can lead to more resilient, ethical, and sustainable animal agriculture.
