Archiving Policy

Archiving Policy

Animal Reports is committed to ensuring the long-term preservation, integrity, and accessibility of its published scholarly content. This archiving policy outlines the mechanisms and partnerships in place to safeguard the journal’s content and guarantee its continued availability to the global research community. We utilize multiple trusted preservation networks and services to ensure that all published articles remain accessible, authentic, and usable for future generations.

Digital Archiving and Preservation

To ensure permanent access to its published content, Animal Reports employs a multi-layered preservation strategy that follows international best practices for digital preservation and supports the journal’s commitment to long-term open access.

1- PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)

The journal participates in the PKP Preservation Network, a preservation service provided by the Public Knowledge Project for journals using the Open Journal Systems platform. This service archives journal content in a distributed network of preservation nodes, ensuring continued access in the event of technical failure or journal discontinuation.

2- CLOCKSS Archive (Publisher Manifest page)

The journal is preserved in the CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) archive. CLOCKSS is a community-governed, geographically distributed dark archive operated by leading academic institutions and publishers. In the event of a trigger (e.g., the journal ceases publication or content becomes unavailable), the archived content is made freely accessible through the CLOCKSS Triggered Content system.

3- LOCKSS System (Publisher Manifest page)

The journal supports preservation through the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system. This decentralized preservation approach allows participating libraries to collect, store, and preserve journal content, ensuring redundancy and resilience against data loss.

4- Keepers Registration

The journal is also registered with keepers, which provides additional digital preservation services, ensuring redundancy and enhanced security for the permanent archiving of published articles. This registration strengthens the resilience and long-term accessibility of the journal’s scholarly content.

5- Self-Archiving and Repositories

Authors are encouraged to deposit the final published version of their articles in institutional repositories, subject repositories, or other non-commercial repositories, in accordance with the journal’s open access and copyright policies. This practice further enhances the visibility, accessibility, and preservation of published research.

6- Publisher’s Platform

All articles published in Animal Reports are hosted on the journal’s official publishing platform and stored on secure publisher-managed servers. Regular backups are performed using multiple redundant systems to protect content against data loss, corruption, or technical failures.

Open Access and Licensing

All articles published in Animal Reports are open access and made available immediately upon publication without any embargo under a Creative Commons license (CC By 4). This licensing framework permits lawful sharing, reuse, and long-term preservation of the journal’s content by the scholarly community.

Policy Review and Updates

This archiving policy is reviewed periodically to ensure alignment with international best practices and evolving standards in scholarly publishing and digital preservation. Any updates or modifications to this policy will be publicly communicated through the journal’s website.

By adhering to this archiving policy, Animal Reports ensures the permanent preservation and accessibility of its scholarly content, supporting sustainable academic publishing and the advancement of knowledge in animal science, veterinary medicine, aquaculture, and related fields.
